Florida Solar for All - What is it?

Florida is taking a bold step toward energy equity with the launch of the Florida Solar for All (FSFA) program. Designed to bring the benefits of solar power to low-income and disadvantaged communities, this initiative aims to eliminate barriers that have historically excluded these groups from participating in the clean energy economy.

What is Florida Solar for All?

The FSFA program is a groundbreaking initiative funded by a $156.12 million grant to deploy rooftop distributed solar energy across Florida. By addressing high upfront costs and other systemic challenges, FSFA is making solar energy accessible to those who need it most. Here’s what the program includes:

  • Support for Single-Family Homes: The primary focus is on single-family homes, enabling homeowners to transition to clean energy and reduce utility bills.

  • Multifamily and Resiliency Projects: A portion of funds will also support multifamily properties and solar resiliency projects, ensuring that renters and shared housing communities benefit as well.

  • Workforce and Market Development: FSFA provides technical assistance to foster job growth in the solar industry, engage communities, and strengthen the clean energy market.

Why Does This Matter?

Low-income and disadvantaged communities have long faced barriers such as high initial costs and unfavorable policies that limit access to solar energy. FSFA changes the game by using proven strategies to:

  • Reduce energy bills for families.

  • Enhance energy resilience in vulnerable areas.

  • Provide long-term environmental benefits through reduced carbon emissions.

Who is Behind the Program?

The FSFA program is managed by the Solar and Energy Loan Fund (SELF), a nonprofit organization with a strong track record in clean energy financing and community-driven solutions. SELF’s expertise ensures that funds are used effectively to maximize the program's impact.

How Can Homeowners Get Involved?

The program is set to release early 2025 in February so the best thing to do is sign up as a homeowner for updates on when these funds will be available. You can sign up for updates on SELF’s Solar For All  Page.

If your home is approved:

  • YES, it is 100% covered! This means all products, engineering, permits, any additional materials needed are COVERED.

  • We at Solar First as a Florida Solar Contractor additionally provide a 1 Year Workmanship guarantee on all the work performed to ensure the PV solar system is up and running and there is no damage to property in any way.

  • In case of an emergency or hurricane, this system is not designed to power your home during such events. Instead, it is intended to enhance your home's energy efficiency and provide savings of approximately $100–$130 per month based on current electricity rates.

  • If your roof requires repairs and the solar system needs to be removed and reinstalled, Solar First will provide this service free of charge, up to one time.

As we get closer to launch, it is important to keep an eye on SELF’s Florida Solar for All page for further updates!

Florida Solar for All isn’t just about solar panels—it’s about creating a fair, sustainable, and inclusive energy future for everyone. With its focus on affordability, community impact, and workforce development, FSFA is a win for homeowners and the state as a whole. This is a great opportunity for many homeowners to make the shift into solar without the financial burden.

Please keep checking back for more information regarding the program as it nears release!
